About the Role: As a BSL Level 1 Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting students with communication difficulties, including those who are non-verbal. Working across all year groups, you will provide tailored support to help students access the curriculum, communicate effectively, and participate fully in school life. Your expertise in BSL Level 1 will be invaluable in facilitating communication and fostering an inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with communication needs
  • Use BSL Level 1 to facilitate communication and enhance student engagement
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to develop individualized support plans
  • Adapt and differentiate learning materials to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to inform ongoing support strategies
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, and carers to ensure a holistic approach to support

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) Level 1
  • Experience working with students across all year groups, preferably within a school setting
  • Understanding of the needs of non-verbal students and strategies to support their communication
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse communication needs
