Job Duties:

  • Provide support and assistance to students with special educational needs in a school setting.
  • Assist students with their daily activities, including personal care, feeding, and mobility.
  • Implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and follow specific strategies to support students' learning and development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to create a conducive learning environment for students with special needs.
  • Monitor and track students' progress, documenting observations and providing feedback to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Help students develop their social skills, communication abilities, and independence.
  • Manage challenging behaviours and provide behaviour support interventions as needed.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in special needs support.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and reports related to students' progress and support provided.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of special needs support in an educational setting.
  • Have experience or training in caring for children with special needs.
  • Preferred, not essential: hold a Level 3 qualification in a relevant field.

Experience:

  • Prior experience or training in caring for children with special needs.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of special needs support and inclusive education practises.
  • Ability to provide personal care and support to students with special needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and professionals.
  • Ability to implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and adapt teaching strategies to meet students' needs.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and ability to effectively manage challenging behaviours.
  • Strong organisational skills to maintain accurate records and reports.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional qualifications in special education or related fields.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a school setting, primarily assisting students with special educational needs.
  • Full-time position, expected to work standard school hours.
  • May involve occasional physical exertion when providing personal care or assisting with mobility.
  • Collaboration with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to support students' needs.
