1:1 Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant 

Location: Medway, Kent

Salary: Competitive Daily Rate and Flexible Earning through PAYE

Job Description: As a 1:1 Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a specific student with special educational needs, providing tailored support to enable them to access the curriculum and make progress academically, socially, and emotionally. You will collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individualized learning plans and interventions, adapting teaching strategies to meet the unique needs of the student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support to the assigned student with special educational needs, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior support plans (BSPs), in collaboration with the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Support the student in accessing the curriculum, differentiating learning activities as necessary to meet their needs.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where the student feels safe, valued, and motivated to learn.
  • Monitor the progress of the student and provide regular feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Promote independence and self-esteem by encouraging the student to develop their skills and confidence.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility needs, if required.

Requirements:

  • Relevant experience working with children with special educational needs, preferably within a primary school setting.
  • A clear understanding of various special educational needs, including but not limited to autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and speech and language difficulties.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the learning and development of children with special educational needs.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to learn new strategies and techniques to support the student effectively.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.
