Job Title: SEND Learning Support Assistant - 1:1 Support

About the Role: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Learning Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within primary schools. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable students and support their learning and development. The successful candidate will work closely with individual students, helping them to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to students with SEND, adapting teaching and learning strategies to meet their individual needs.
  • Assist students with academic tasks, including reading, writing, and numeracy, as well as other areas of the curriculum.
  • Support students with emotional and behavioral difficulties, helping them to develop coping strategies and manage their emotions.
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers and SENCOs to implement individualized support plans and monitor student progress.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, building trust and rapport to create a supportive learning environment.
  • Assist with the implementation of sensory and communication strategies to support students with sensory processing disorders or communication difficulties.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and feedback, communicating effectively with parents and other stakeholders as required.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND, either in a school setting or other relevant environment.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special educational needs or a related field are desirable but not essential.
  • Understanding of different SEND conditions and the impact they may have on learning and development.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach to supporting vulnerable students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and respond to challenging situations effectively.
