Role Overview: As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the educational and personal development of students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) within our school community. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff, you will provide one-on-one and small group support to students, helping them access the curriculum, develop essential skills, and achieve their individual learning goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support and assistance to students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and emotional and behavioral difficulties.
  • Assist students with accessing the curriculum, completing assignments, and participating in classroom activities, adapting materials and resources as needed to meet individual learning needs.
  • Implement strategies and interventions outlined in students' individual education plans (IEPs), working collaboratively with teachers and SENCOs to monitor progress and adjust support strategies accordingly.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued, respected, and supported, promoting independence, self-confidence, and self-esteem.
  • Support students with personal care, mobility, and social interaction as required, ensuring their health, safety, and well-being are prioritized at all times.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and any interventions or support provided, communicating effectively with colleagues and parents to ensure continuity of care and support.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), preferably in a school setting.
  • Strong understanding of various special educational needs and disabilities, as well as strategies for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with young people with special needs.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special education, teaching assistance, or a related field (desirable but not essential).
