EAL Learning Support Assistant

As an EAL Learning Support Assistant, you will provide efficient and high-quality support to all students at the academy, focusing on those with English as an additional language. You will deliver small group interventions and support students in lessons to enhance outcomes and achievement at all levels. Responsibilities:

  • Promote inclusion for all students.
  • Support the development of basic skills and language proficiency for students with EAL.
  • Collaborate with class teachers to target language development needs of students.
  • Provide practical classroom support and deliver small group interventions for students with English as an additional language, helping them reach their potential.
  • Work with subject teachers to ensure effective use of lesson materials, facilitating students' progress towards their target levels.
  • Promote whole school strategies to support students with EAL.

Duties:

  • Develop an understanding of students' language needs and support them in becoming independent learners in the classroom.
  • Ensure students with EAL have access to lessons and content through appropriate clarification, explanations, equipment, and materials.
  • Foster students' study and organizational skills, enabling them to remain focused and complete tasks effectively.
  • Monitor students' responses to learning activities and their progress towards targets. Record achievements and provide feedback to teachers and the SLT as required.
  • Assist in implementing and tracking student targets.
  • Support students' emotional and social needs by modelling positive behaviour and maintaining high expectations aligned with the Academy's Behavior Policy.
  • Contribute to students' pastoral care and serve as a co-tutor for a form group.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures related to child protection, security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting concerns to the appropriate person.
  • Contribute to the review of academy policies as needed.
  • Accompany teaching staff and students on visits, trips, and out-of-school activities.
  • Attend and actively participate in relevant meetings.
  • Develop and implement whole school strategies to support students with EAL.
  • Lead and champion whole school strategies to support students with EAL.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
