We are recruiting for ambitious and enthusiastic graduates from creative backgrounds like Drama, Art and Music to work with children with special educational needs in secondary schools throughout Newcastle. You will be working as a teaching assistant to support children in their day-to-day learning and routines.

This is an entry level position, no previous experience is required. The school is looking for a graduate with a personality who wants to make a difference in the lives of young people.

The role would be suitable for those with creative backgrounds who are keen to use their transferable skills in a new setting. You may be able to engage children with the use of art and music or support emotional literacy through your previous drama training.  You will be expected to accompany and support children in all their lessons, including English and Maths. You will provide pastoral support and work under the direction of the classroom teacher. Good level of numeracy and literacy is required, but in depth subject knowledge is not essential.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have a calm and consistent approach and understand how to respond to challenging behaviours
  • Hold a university degree 
  • Be able to work Monday-Friday (term time)
  • Have experience or a keen interest in working with children.
  • Be educated to degree level

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
