We are currently working with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) that provides statutory provision for students following permanent exclusion and dual-registered provision for students at risk of exclusion. The school's mission is to identify and address the underlying causes of difficult behaviours, facilitate re-engagement, and equip students with strategies for regulation, pro-social behaviours, and resilience.

Job Description:

We are seeking a committed and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students within the PRU setting. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing individualized support and intervention to students facing challenging behaviours and barriers to learning.
  • Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement targeted strategies to address underlying causes of difficult behaviours.
  • Facilitating re-engagement with education through personalized learning experiences and therapeutic interventions.
  • Supporting students in developing pro-social behaviours, emotional regulation skills, and resilience to overcome obstacles.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with students in alternative provision settings, such as PRUs, is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with students facing complex challenges.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience in supporting students through periods of transition and emotional turmoil.
  • A proactive and solution-focused approach to identifying and addressing barriers to learning and behaviour.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in education, special educational needs (SEN), counselling, or related fields would be advantageous.
