In schools across South Tyneside—from Jarrow and Hebburn to Boldon and South Shields—there simply aren’t enough staff to cover lessons when teachers are away. That means, on some days, pupils go without learning—not because they don’t want to, but because there’s no one there to guide them.

In this role, you won’t be expected to teach new content—but you will supervise pupils, keep them focused, and make sure learning continues. You’ll help maintain classroom order, support students with their tasks, and provide a calm, positive presence when their regular teacher isn’t available.
Your day-to-day will include:

Supervising a class in the absence of the teacher

Supporting students with set work and answering basic questions

Helping to explain tasks clearly when pupils don’t understand straight away

Creating a safe, calm, and respectful classroom environment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
