Job Title: Trainee SLD Support Worker
Location: North Tyneside
Salary: £85–£100 per day
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term
What if your kindness and patience could help a young person achieve something they never thought possible?
A specialist school in North Tyneside are looking for an SLD Support Worker to join our team supporting children and young people with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). The pupils you’ll work with have a wide range of complex needs—some may need help communicating, others may need personal care or sensory support—but all of them deserve someone who believes in their potential.
This role is about more than just supporting learning—it’s about building trust, creating a safe space, and helping each child develop the skills they need for life beyond the classroom. You’ll be part of a team that celebrates the small steps because we know that for our pupils, they’re the steps that matter most.
Our values guide everything we do. We believe in aspiration, supporting pupils to aim high and believe in themselves. We act with integrity, doing what’s right for the children in our care. Kindness is at the heart of how we work—with our pupils, with each other, and with families. And we build resilience, because we don’t give up on children—and we help them not give up on themselves.
No experience, no problem. As long as you have transferable skills which show you're capable enough to tackle an ever--changing environment and provide the support the pupils need, you could be the perfect fit.
What you’ll be doing:
-
Offering consistent, compassionate one-to-one and small group support
-
Supporting with personal care and practical daily routines when needed
-
Helping pupils engage with tailored learning activities designed around their needs
-
Working closely with teachers, therapists, and families to build the right support
-
Being a steady, calm presence—and celebrating every bit of progress along the way
We’re looking for someone with warmth, empathy, and the patience to build trust. School experience is helpful, but it’s your ability to connect with children and stay positive through challenges that will make you a brilliant fit here.
