Job Role: SEND Learning Mentor

Pay: £77 - £90 per day + £50 Referral + PAYE

Protocol Education are recruiting for a Learning Mentor for a Specialist Secondary PRU School in High Wycombe. The school prides itself on being a successful school where children are at the centre of what they do and they are looking for someone to join their supportive, warm and welcoming school. As a learning mentor you will mostly be working alongside the class teacher to provide support to the children and in many cases on a 1:1 basis. The needs of the children can vary and have a range of diagnosed conditions, severe learning difficultes and challenging behaviors
The School
This Specialist Secondary PRU, is a therapeutic setting for young people up to 19 years old, who have been or were at risk of exclusion from a special school due to a presentation of behaviour that challenges those organisations. In many ways, the school is a unique educational setting. They take a holistic biopsychosocial model of behaviours that challenge to address the causes of behaviour with the aim of reducing their duration, severity, and frequency.
Experience in a school setting isn't essential and someone with transferable skills would be accepted. The school are looking for someone who has a calm and reassuring nature and who is adaptable and flexible. Applicants that are a Psychology Graduate, Drama Graduate, Youth Worker, Sports Coach and more would be perfect for this role.
The Role;
- To work alongside the class teacher in supporting children with their learning
- To manage the behaviour of pupils whilst they undertake their work and ensuring a constructive and positive environment is always enforced
- De-escalating situations within the classroom in the correct way certifying safeguarding procedures are always adhered
- Carrying out small group work and working with children with additional needs
- Reporting any safeguarding concerns using the school’s referral procedures and safeguarding policies.
