Teaching Assistant – PMLD School (East London)

Position: Teaching Assistant
Location: East London
Salary: £90–£100 per day (depending on experience adn qualifications)
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Start Date: ASAP.


The Role:

As a Teaching Assistant at an East London PMLD school, you’ll play a vital role in supporting students throughout their day – from engaging in classroom activities to providing personal care. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, caring, and keen to develop their skills in SEN education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students 1:1 or in small groups with a focus on sensory learning and communication

  • Assist with personal care (toileting, feeding, mobility) in a respectful and compassionate manner

  • Help implement personalised learning plans under the guidance of class teachers and therapists

  • Use specialist resources such as PECS, Makaton, switches, and sensory equipment

  • Create a calm, safe, and stimulating environment for learning

  • Work collaboratively with staff, therapists, and families to ensure holistic support for each student


Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with children or young people with PMLD, SLD, or complex needs

  • Comfortable with providing personal care and supporting physical needs

  • A positive, resilient, and empathetic nature

  • Understanding of or willingness to learn alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, AAC)

  • Team player who’s committed to creating inclusive learning opportunities

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE/NVQ Level 2 or 3) are beneficial but not essential

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
