Protocol Education is working closely with a welcoming and inclusive Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the Newham area, who are seeking a dedicated full-time Teaching Assistant to join their team from September.
As a Teaching Assistant in a PRU, you will play a crucial role in supporting students aged 11–16 who may have social, emotional or behavioural needs. You’ll work alongside experienced teaching and support staff to help deliver tailored learning activities, build positive relationships with students and contribute to a safe and nurturing environment that helps young people re-engage with education. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in students’ lives, both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support teachers in delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that meet students’ individual needs.
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students who may display challenging behaviour.
- Assist in preparing classroom resources and activities that motivate and encourage participation.
- Help promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing through consistent routines and positive reinforcement.
- Monitor and record student progress, feeding back to teaching staff and contributing to support plans.
About you:
- Previous experience working with young people in a PRU, SEN or alternative provision setting is highly desirable.
- Calm, empathetic and able to build trusting relationships with students.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Resilient, adaptable, and proactive in managing challenging situations.
- A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, youth work or SEN qualification) is beneficial but not essential.
