Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision (Secondary)
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Full-time (Long-Term)
Pay: £105–£125 per day (PAYE)
The classroom looks different here—but so does the impact.
We’re looking for a resilient, compassionate Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision setting in Newcastle supporting students who haven’t thrived in mainstream school.
This is not your average TA role. You’ll be working with young people who’ve faced real challenges—helping them re-engage with learning, manage emotions, and believe in themselves again.
Your role:
-
Supporting students with SEMH (social, emotional, and mental health) needs
-
Building strong, trusting relationships with young people
-
Managing behaviour calmly and confidently, using positive reinforcement
-
Working closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to adapt learning
What the setting offers:
✅ Small group and 1:1 support focus
✅ Team that values empathy, consistency, and boundaries
✅ Trauma-informed approach with ongoing CPD
✅ A chance to genuinely change lives
What you’ll bring:
-
Experience with young people facing SEMH challenges or behavioural needs
-
A calm, firm, and compassionate approach
-
Team Teach or de-escalation training (ideal but not essential)
-
A sense of humour and a real belief in second chances
Why work with Protocol Education?

-
FREE access to our CPD Academy (including SEMH & behaviour support)
-
A specialist consultant who knows the AP landscape
-
Long-term opportunities with schools that really value their support staff
