Job Description:
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Protocol Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a child in a primary school setting. This role involves working on a 1:1 basis with a student, ensuring they receive the guidance, care, and tailored support they need to thrive in the classroom and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support to a child with SEND, fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment.
- Implement individualized learning plans (EHCP/IEP), adapting teaching methods to suit the child’s needs.
- Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and other staff to develop and maintain effective strategies for supporting the child’s learning and well-being.
- Assist the child in understanding instructions, completing tasks, and engaging with learning activities.
- Support the development of the child's social and communication skills.
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behavior, using positive reinforcement and behavior management techniques.
- Assist with the child’s physical needs, where required, including mobility, feeding, or personal care.
- Maintain detailed records of the child’s progress and communicate regularly with parents, teachers, and SEND specialists.
- Contribute to creating an inclusive learning environment, helping the child integrate into school life.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills in SEND support.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with SEND, in an educational setting is preferred.
- A patient, empathetic, and understanding approach to working with children with diverse needs.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, and school staff.
- Basic knowledge of SEND practices, including autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one) is required.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
