Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant – PMLD Support (Primary & Secondary)

Location:Merton / Morden
Contract Type: Term-Time Only

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to work in an inclusive and nurturing school environment. You will be supporting children and young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) across both primary and secondary phases, helping them access learning, develop independence, and thrive socially and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to students with PMLD, including personal care and mobility assistance.
  • Work closely with class teachers and the SEND team to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Use a range of communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECS, AAC) to engage students.
  • Create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support students during lessons, break times, and off-site activities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly PMLD.
  • Understanding of sensory needs, physical disabilities, and complex medical conditions.
  • A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting vulnerable learners.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.
