Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant – Where Every Small Step Matters
Location: Sunderland
Salary: £89–£108 per day
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term
Start Date: September 2025

Looking for a role that’s more than just a job? This one’s for you.

We’re working with a specialist setting in Sunderland that’s all about supporting young people with severe learning difficulties and complex needs. It’s a place where every achievement-no matter how small-is celebrated. Where consistency, compassion, and teamwork make a real impact.

This school isn’t your typical classroom. It’s a nurturing, structured environment built on respect, ambition, and personal growth. Staff here work collaboratively to unlock each pupil’s potential, tailoring support to individual learning and communication styles. They’re proud of the progress their students make-and they’ll be proud to have you on board too.

Your role will include:

  • Supporting pupils aged 11–19 with a wide range of learning and communication needs

  • Working closely with teachers and therapists to deliver personalised education plans

  • Building trusted relationships that help students feel safe, seen, and supported

  • Using creative approaches—from sensory activities to life skills coaching-to engage learners

You should have:

  • Experience in a SEND or care setting (or a passion to learn)

  • A calm, patient, and positive approach

  • The ability to work as part of a team—and bring your whole self to work

Bonus points if you’re Thrive-trained! Not yet? No worries. We’ll get you sorted with free access to our Thrive training—schools love it, and it’s a brilliant boost to your toolkit.
