Protocol Education is seeking a committed and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to support a fantastic SEND provision in Sunderland.

Role: SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Sunderland
Start Date: ASAP or September 2025
Contract Type: Full-time, Monday to Friday (term time only)
Pay: £89 – £108 per day (dependent on experience and responsibilities)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with a variety of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, and speech and language difficulties.

  • Work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to implement EHCPs and individualised support plans.

  • Support students 1:1 and in small groups to access learning and build confidence.

  • Help to manage behaviour positively and consistently.

  • Contribute to a nurturing, inclusive, and safe classroom environment.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND (in schools, care, or residential settings).

  • A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach to support.

  • Confident working with behaviour that challenges or with pupils needing personal care (if applicable).

  • Able to commit to a full-time role and build consistency for the students.

  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
