SEND Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting in Peterlee. The school supports children and young people with a wide range of additional needs, including autism, SEMH, communication difficulties, and complex learning difficulties, with a strong focus on preparing pupils for lifelong success.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a variety of SEND and complex needs

Assist in delivering structured learning pathways tailored to each pupil’s abilities

Support pupils with communication, sensory regulation, and emotional wellbeing

Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to ensure consistent support strategies

Encourage independence and confidence both in the classroom and through wider learning opportunities
About You

Experience supporting children or young people with SEND (school, residential, or alternative settings)

Calm, patient, and adaptable in your approach

Understanding of autism, SEMH, or complex needs (desirable)

Knowledge of communication aids, visual supports, or sensory regulation strategies is an advantage

Thrive training or willingness to undertake additional SEND training is a bonus

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
