Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant – Rebuilding Trust, One Day at a Time
Location: Gateshead
Salary: £89–£108 per day
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term
Start Date: September 2025

If you believe that behaviour is communication and every child deserves a fresh start, this could be the role for you.

We’re supporting a specialist primary setting in Gateshead that works with pupils who’ve had a tough time in education-often due to trauma, unmet needs, or complex behaviour. This is a school that does things differently. Small classes, big support, and staff who show up with patience, calm, and kindness every single day.

As a SEND TA, you’ll be right at the heart of that. Working alongside a dedicated team, you’ll help pupils settle, engage, and build routines that feel safe and manageable. Your job? Be the steady adult who helps them believe school can be a positive place again.

What the role involves:

  • 1:1 and small group support for children with SEMH and SEND

  • Encouraging pupils to regulate emotions, follow routines, and re-engage with learning

  • Supporting personal development, social interaction, and classroom transitions

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and parents to keep support joined-up

You’ll need:

  • Experience working with children with SEND, SEMH, or challenging behaviour

  • A calm, consistent approach and the ability to defuse tricky moments

  • Strong communication skills and confidence working as part of a close-knit team

Not yet Thrive-trained? No problem. We offer free Thrive CPD to help you build your confidence in trauma-informed practice and emotional regulation strategies.

What you’ll get from Protocol Education:
