SEND Teaching Assistant – Sunderland
Specialist Autism Setting | Full-Time | September Start
We’re looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist autism provision in Sunderland this September.
This is a school that works exclusively with pupils who have Autism Spectrum Conditions and associated communication and learning needs — creating a structured, nurturing environment where every young person can feel safe, supported, and valued.
If you’re calm, patient, and passionate about supporting neurodivergent pupils, this could be the role where you make a lasting difference.
Your role will include:

Supporting pupils with Autism and associated needs, both in class and through one-to-one support

Helping pupils develop communication skills, confidence, and independence

Assisting with structured routines, sensory needs, and emotional regulation

Working closely with specialist teachers, therapists, and support staff
We’re looking for someone who:

Has experience working with SEND or in a specialist autism setting

Brings a calm, understanding approach and strong relationship-building skills
-
Is confident supporting communication and behaviour needs
-
Can commit to a full-time role from September

Is Thrive trained or willing to complete training with Protocol Education

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
