Protocol Education is working closely with a number of inclusive and welcoming SEND schools across Gateshead. These schools are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistants to join their teams from September 2025.

The Role:

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Work 1:1 or with small groups of pupils with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and MLD.

  • Support class teachers in delivering tailored learning activities.

  • Help to create a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment.

  • Build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families.

  • Monitor progress and contribute to reports and support plans.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience supporting children or young people with SEND (in education, care, or community settings).

  • Be calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations.

  • Understand the importance of safeguarding and behaviour support strategies.

  • Be willing to work collaboratively with the wider team.

  • Hold (or be willing to apply for) an enhanced DBS on the Update Service.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
