SEN Teaching Assistants – Wakefield – Urgent Long-Term Roles Available

We’re urgently recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils across a range of primary and secondary settings in Wakefield. These are long-term placements in inclusive, supportive schools where your contribution will be valued every single day.

Your Role Will Include:
✅ Supporting pupils with a range of needs including:
- Autism (ASC)
- ADHD
- Speech, Language & Communication Difficulties
- SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health)
- Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
- Physical or Sensory Impairments
✅ Providing 1:1 and small group interventions
✅ Supporting behaviour using positive reinforcement strategies
✅ Assisting with personal care (where required)
✅ Collaborating with SENCOs, class teachers, and external professionals
✅ Using strategies such as PECs, Makaton, visual timetables, sensory activities and more
Essential Requirements:
✔️ Experience supporting children or young adults with SEN (school-based, care, support work, youth work etc.)
✔️ Understanding of EHCPs (Education Health & Care Plans) and differentiated learning
✔️ Confidence in managing challenging behaviour in a calm and respectful manner
✔️ Strong interpersonal and communication skills
✔️ Ability to build trust, routine and positive relationships with pupils
✔️ A patient, adaptable and nurturing attitude
Preferred (but not essential) Qualifications/Training:
Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification
Team Teach or other de-escalation training
Autism Awareness training
Makaton or British Sign Language (BSL) skills
Manual handling / hoisting training (for physical support roles)
Safeguarding Level 1 or higher

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
