SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: South Shields
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Start date: Immediate / September 2025
We’re looking for a compassionate and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting in South Tyneside. The school supports children and young people with a wide range of additional needs, including autism, SEMH, communication difficulties, and complex learning needs.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with additional needs

Assist in delivering engaging lessons and activities that promote independence and confidence

Support pupils with personal care, mobility, and communication where required

Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure consistent support strategies are in place

Help create a safe, positive, and nurturing environment where every pupil can thrive
About You

Experience supporting children or young people with SEND (school-based or alternative settings)

Calm, patient, and adaptable in your approach

Knowledge of autism, SEMH, or PMLD needs is desirable
-
Thrive training or willingness to undertake training is a bonus
-
Able to build positive relationships and promote independence at every opportunity

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
