SEN Teaching Assistant 

Location: Swindon
Contract: Full Time (Part time applications considered)
Start Date: Term 5 an 6/September 2025

Protocol Education are working with multiple SEN and Mainstream schools across the area are a looking for a compassionate and committed Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our team, working with students who have a diverse range of special educational needs.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to students with a wide range of special educational needs, including those who may display challenging behaviours. Your role will be pivotal in helping create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to students with SEN, helping them access the curriculum.

  • Assist teachers in delivering differentiated lessons and activities to meet individual needs.

  • Foster a nurturing and empathetic environment to support students’ emotional and academic growth.

  • Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours using positive behaviour strategies.

  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to implement Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).

  • Support students’ social and personal development, promoting independence and confidence.

About You

Essential:

  • A caring and patient approach with a genuine passion for supporting students with SEN.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships with students.

  • Ability to remain calm and professional when managing challenging behaviours.

  • A proactive and flexible attitude, with a commitment to teamwork.

  • Basic understanding of SEN and the ability to follow tailored support plans.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, ideally in an educational setting (e.g., schools, specialist provisions, or care settings).

  • Knowledge of specific SEN conditions (e.g., autism, ADHD, dyslexia) or behaviour management techniques.

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or training in SEN support).

  • Familiarity with safeguarding practices and EHCPs.
