SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Swindon
Contract: Full Time (Part time applications considered)
Start Date: Term 5 an 6/September 2025
Protocol Education are working with multiple SEN and Mainstream schools across the area are a looking for a compassionate and committed Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our team, working with students who have a diverse range of special educational needs.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to students with a wide range of special educational needs, including those who may display challenging behaviours. Your role will be pivotal in helping create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 or small group support to students with SEN, helping them access the curriculum.

Assist teachers in delivering differentiated lessons and activities to meet individual needs.

Foster a nurturing and empathetic environment to support students’ emotional and academic growth.

Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours using positive behaviour strategies.

Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to implement Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Support students’ social and personal development, promoting independence and confidence.
About You

Basic understanding of SEN and the ability to follow tailored support plans.
Desirable:

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, ideally in an educational setting (e.g., schools, specialist provisions, or care settings).

Knowledge of specific SEN conditions (e.g., autism, ADHD, dyslexia) or behaviour management techniques.

Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or training in SEN support).

Familiarity with safeguarding practices and EHCPs.
