Job Title: SEN Teacher / Teaching Assistant
Location: Huddersfield
Salary: £83 – £115 per day (depending on role and experience)
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term
Start Date: ASAP

Some classrooms need more than just lessons, they need patience, presence, and people who really get it. If you’re an experienced Teaching Assistant or SEN Teacher with a steady hand and a kind heart, this one’s for you.

We’re working with a brilliant SEN school in Huddersfield that supports pupils with autism, SEMH needs, and complex learning profiles. They’re looking for someone calm, confident, and ready to build trust from day one.

The role includes:

  • 1:1 or small group support for pupils with SEND
  • Working closely with SENCOs, therapists, and class teachers
  • Helping students access learning with tailored strategies
  • Supporting behaviour through consistency, empathy, and structure

You should have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs -whether in a school, residential care, youth work, or personal experience. Autism, ADHD, SEMH, PMLD… if you’ve supported it, we want to hear about it.
  • A calm, confident presence - you don’t flinch at meltdowns or tricky moments. You know how to hold space, keep routines, and help pupils feel safe.
  • Strong communication skills - you’re clear, patient, and able to connect with pupils who may not use words at all. You can work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and parents too.
  • Emotional intelligence - you notice the small things, read between the lines, and respond with empathy. You see behaviour as communication.
  • Teamwork and resilience - SEN settings run on collaboration. You know how to muck in, support colleagues, and keep a sense of humour when the day gets messy.
  • Thrive training or trauma-informed practice experience is a big bonus, but if you don’t have it yet, we’ll train you for free.

What Protocol Education offers:

  • Weekly PAYE pay (no umbrella faff)
