Role Overview:

As an SEN Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they receive the individualized attention and assistance required to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. You will work closely with teachers, SEN coordinators, and other staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEN, adapting teaching materials and strategies to meet their individual needs.
  • Support the class teacher in creating and maintaining a safe, supportive, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Foster students’ independence, confidence, and social skills through tailored interventions.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to each student’s development.
  • Maintain accurate records of students’ progress and contribute to regular reviews and assessments.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in SEN education.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of various SEN conditions and effective strategies for supporting students with these needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with diverse learning needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to the school’s inclusive ethos.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of specific interventions or programs (e.g., TEACCH, PECS, Makaton).
  • Experience with assistive technology and adaptive learning tools.
  • Relevant qualifications in Special Educational Needs (e.g., CACHE Level 3, SEN Certificate) or equivalent experience.
