We’re looking for a patient and resilient Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a Year 5 pupil who has social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and presents with challenging behaviour. This is a role where building trust and offering consistency is key—you’ll be the person this child can rely on.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing 1:1 support in class, helping the pupil access learning

  • Using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques

  • Supporting social and emotional development, encouraging confidence and self-regulation

  • Working with the class teacher, SENCO and parents to keep support consistent

  • Creating a calm, structured environment where the pupil feels safe and understood

  • Experience supporting children with SEMH and behaviour needs

  • A calm, empathetic and resilient personality

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Someone who celebrates the small steps and keeps going when things get tough
