We’re looking for a full-time SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a forward-thinking specialist setting in South Shields this September.
It’s a role for someone who thrives on building trust, creating calm, and making every pupil feel seen and supported.

This school knows what works — structured routines, strong pastoral support, and a sports-focused curriculum that brings out the best in every young person.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, both one-to-one and in small groups

  • Using positive behaviour strategies and trauma-informed approaches

  • Working alongside teachers and SEN specialists to help pupils succeed in and out of the classroom

  • Being a steady, supportive presence every single day

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in SEMH, PRU, SEND, or pastoral roles

  • Knows how to stay calm under pressure and build positive relationships

  • Is confident, resilient, and passionate about supporting young people

  • Can commit to a full-time role from September

  • Thrive trained? Great. If not, we’ll cover the cost of training through Protocol Education

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
