Be the calm in the storm for pupils who need it most
We’re supporting a specialist school in Sunderland that provides education for children with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. This is a school that places relationships at the centre of learning—building trust, celebrating progress, and helping pupils believe in themselves.
The school’s ethos is rooted in respect, inclusion, and resilience. Staff work together to create a safe, structured environment where every child has the chance to succeed, both in the classroom and beyond.
The role:
You’ll support pupils with SEMH needs in lessons and through targeted interventions, helping them regulate emotions, engage in learning, and develop positive behaviours. Some days you’ll be helping a pupil to focus on maths, other days you’ll be guiding them through difficult emotions—but every day, you’ll be making a difference.
What the school offers:
-
A supportive, values-led environment that puts pupils first
-
Ongoing training and professional development opportunities
-
A collaborative team who share best practice and celebrate wins together
-
Strong focus on wellbeing—for pupils and staff alike
We’re looking for someone who:
-
Has experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
-
Can stay calm under pressure and use empathy to build strong relationships
-
Brings creativity and flexibility to supporting pupils in their learning and development
-
Wants a role where they can make a real difference every single day
