SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: South Shields
Job Type: Supply Teaching
Industry: SEN
Reference: hd44
Salary: £89 - 108 per day
Job Published: 5 days ago

Some kids don’t just need a TA. They need you.

We’re looking for a patient, empathetic and steady SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils at a secondary SEMH provision in South Shields. These pupils have experienced more than their fair share of challenges—but with the right adult in their corner, they can absolutely thrive.

If you’ve got experience in SEMH, PRUs or behaviour support—and you know how to stay calm when the classroom isn’t—you’ll fit right in.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs

  • Providing consistent, structured classroom support

  • Building trust and positive routines, one relationship at a time

  • Working closely with SENCOs and pastoral staff to tailor support

  • Keeping things positive, firm, and full of heart

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in SEMH or behaviour-focused roles (school, PRU, youth work)

  • Calm, confident and resilient when managing challenging behaviour

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Someone who sees the child, not just the behaviour

Why this role matters:

Because for some young people, you might be the only steady adult in their day. The one who doesn’t flinch, doesn’t shout, and doesn’t give up.
