Location: Northumberland
Job Type: Full-Time, Monday to Friday (term-time only)
Start Date: September 2025

Could you be the consistent, calm presence a young person needs to thrive?

We’re working with a specialist provision in Northumberland that supports pupils aged 7–16 with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviours. The setting is rooted in empathy, dignity, and trust—ensuring every pupil feels safe, respected, and empowered to grow emotionally and socially.

This is a role for someone who believes in second chances. Someone who understands that connection comes before correction—and that helping a young person feel they belong is the first step toward progress.

About the Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you’ll support pupils both in and out of class on a 1:1 or small-group basis. You’ll help them manage their emotions, re-engage with learning, and build strategies for success—both in school and beyond.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs through consistency, encouragement, and structure

  • Helping to create a calm, emotionally safe environment built on mutual respect

  • Implementing behaviour and support plans alongside teachers and support staff

  • Promoting emotional literacy, resilience, and positive communication

  • Acting as a trusted adult and positive role model for pupils who may struggle with trust and boundaries

Who We’re Looking For:
You may have experience working with SEMH, ASD, trauma, or challenging behaviour in schools, youth services, or care. Most importantly, you’ll bring empathy, emotional resilience, and a genuine desire to help young people feel heard, valued, and understood.

You’ll Need:

  • Confidence in behaviour support and de-escalation strategies

  • A calm, grounded presence and strong emotional intelligence

  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)

What You’ll Get from Protocol Education:

  • Competitive weekly PAYE pay—no umbrella deductions

  • FREE CPD and access to trauma-informed and behaviour training

  • A local, dedicated consultant who understands your goals

  • Placements that align with your strengths, values, and ambitions
