Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant

We’re working with a specialist provision in South Shields where every pupil’s journey is understood and supported. They create a safe space for young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs and they’re looking for a Teaching Assistant who’s calm, consistent, and genuinely passionate about helping pupils manage their emotions and build confidence.
If you’ve worked with young people who need a bit of extra patience whether in education, care, youth work, or personally this could be your chance to make a difference in a setting that truly values relationship-building and resilience.
Your role will include:

Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups with SEMH needs

Building trust and helping young people manage their emotions and behaviour

Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to deliver tailored support

Using trauma-informed approaches and encouraging positive routines

Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs (personal or professional)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
