SEMH Support Assistant | Lewisham | September Start
Do you have the patience of a saint and the empathy of a counsellor? Can you stay calm when things get loud, and see the child behind the behaviour?
We’re looking for SEMH Support Assistants to work in schools across Lewisham—supporting pupils who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges. It’s not always easy, but it is always meaningful.
What you’ll be doing:
-
Supporting children with SEMH needs in and out of the classroom
-
Helping pupils regulate emotions, build confidence, and stay engaged in learning
-
Using strategies like de-escalation, positive reinforcement, and safe spaces
-
Working closely with the SENCO, behaviour leads, and class teachers
You’ll be great for this if you:
-
Have experience in care, youth work, psychology, mentoring or similar
-
Can build strong, trusting relationships with children who’ve faced tough starts
-
Stay calm, compassionate, and consistent—even when it’s challenging
-
Understand that progress doesn’t always look the same for every pupil
DBS Reminder:
An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service is essential. Don’t have one yet? We’ll help you apply and get it sorted quickly.
