Job Title: Behaviour Support Mentor (Ideal for ex-Prison Officers)
Location: Shropshire
Salary: £90–£95 per day (PAYE)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, Long-term

From custody to classroom—your skills are needed here.
If you’ve worked in a challenging environment like a prison, you’ve already got the grit, empathy, and calm-under-pressure mindset it takes to thrive in this role.

We’re looking for a confident, compassionate individual to join a specialist SEMH school in Shropshire. You’ll be supporting pupils who have faced exclusion, trauma, or barriers to mainstream learning—and helping them take positive steps forward.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing one-to-one behaviour mentoring and emotional regulation support

  • Spotting when a student’s struggling and stepping in with empathy—not judgment

  • Helping deliver personalised support plans with a trauma-informed approach

  • Working side-by-side with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to support holistic progress

  • Creating a safe, stable environment where every pupil can breathe, trust, and learn

What we’re looking for:

  • Former Prison Officers, Youth Workers, or anyone with experience in high-pressure environments

  • Strong de-escalation skills and a resilient, calm approach

  • An understanding that behaviour is communication—especially in SEMH settings

  • A team player with patience, perspective, and a huge heart for helping young people thrive

  • Thrive or Team Teach trained? Brilliant. Not yet? We’ll train you for free.

Why join Protocol Education?

  • Weekly PAYE pay – no umbrella deductions

  • Free Thrive training – build your trauma-informed practice

  • Ongoing CPD and 1:1 consultant support – you’re never doing this alone

  • Recognition & community – coffee mornings, termly awards, and proper appreciation

Your next role could be the one that changes a young person’s life.
And maybe even your own.
