Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

Looking to put your psychology degree to good use? Here’s your chance to make a real difference in the lives of young people who need support, structure, and someone who genuinely understands them.

We’re working with a fantastic SEND/SEMH school in Lewisham that’s looking for psychology graduates who want to build meaningful relationships and develop real-world experience supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs.

The Role:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis, helping them build confidence, routine, and resilience.
  • Using your understanding of psychology to support behaviour, emotional regulation, and positive engagement in the classroom.
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to deliver personalised strategies that work for each individual.
  • Helping to create a safe, stable, and positive environment where students feel seen and supported.

About You:

  • A recent psychology graduate looking for hands-on experience in education, mental health, or youth support.
  • Calm, consistent, and patient—you understand that trust takes time.
  • Interested in behaviour support, trauma-informed practice, or progressing into roles like educational psychology, counselling, or teaching.
  • Experience working with young people (in schools, youth clubs, sports coaching, mentoring, or voluntary roles) is a big plus.

What’s On Offer:

  • Long-term, full-time role in a welcoming and supportive SEMH school.
  • FREE Thrive training to build your emotional wellbeing toolkit.
  • Access to Protocol Education’s CPD Academy—perfect if you’re considering a future in psychology, education, or social care.
  • Weekly PAYE pay—no umbrella companies, no hidden deductions.
  • Supportive local consultant who knows the schools and is always on hand.

Why This Role Matters:

In SEMH schools, relationships come first. You’ll be part of the steady, trusted team that helps pupils feel safe enough to learn, express themselves, and believe in their own progress—whether that’s mastering a maths topic or simply getting through the day.
