Primary Teaching Assistant – Support with Heart in Northumberland

Location: Northumberland
Salary: £89–£108 per day
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term
Start Date: September 2025

Some pupils need more than just a helping hand—they need someone who truly sees them.

We’re working with a specialist primary school in Northumberland that supports children with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). Many of the pupils have experienced disrupted starts and big challenges early on—but this school is all about second chances, strong routines, and helping every child feel safe, seen, and ready to learn.

The team here is grounded, kind, and unwavering in their belief that all children deserve the chance to thrive in their local community. It’s not about quick fixes. It’s about real relationships and steady support, day by day.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing consistent 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs

  • Encouraging emotional regulation and promoting positive behaviour strategies

  • Helping create classroom routines that feel safe and predictable

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and families to join up support around each child

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience supporting children with SEMH, trauma-informed needs, or behaviour challenges

  • A calm, firm, and caring approach—someone pupils can rely on

  • A flexible, team-focused mindset and a sense of humour for the unpredictable days

  • Thrive or Team Teach training is a bonus—but if you don’t have it yet, no worries. We’ll help you get there with free CPD tailored to specialist settings like this one.
