Job Title: Primary Teaching Assistant – Supporting with Heart and Purpose
Location: Gateshead
Salary: £89–£108 per day
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term
Start Date: September 2025

Some pupils need more than just a helping hand-they need someone who sees the bigger picture.

We’re working with a specialist primary setting in Gateshead that supports pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). Many of the children here have faced disrupted starts in education, and the school’s mission is to help them rebuild trust, routine, and a love for learning.

Staff here don’t just follow plans- they build relationships. Every day is different, and every breakthrough counts. The team is united by a calm, consistent approach and a deep belief that all children deserve a safe place to thrive.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs

  • Encouraging emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies

  • Assisting in creating routines and learning environments that feel safe and predictable

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and family teams to deliver joined-up support

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience working with children with SEMH, trauma-informed needs, or behaviour support

  • Strong boundaries, warm communication, and a resilient attitude

  • Flexibility, teamwork, and a proactive mindset—ready to adapt when plans change

Thrive training or Team Teach is a bonus. If you don’t have it yet, we’ll get you there—with free access to CPD that makes a real difference in specialist settings like this one.
