We’re working with a range of specialist and mainstream schools across Northumberland that support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). They’re looking for Mental Health Support Workers who can bring patience, empathy, and resilience into the classroom—and help young people feel seen, heard, and valued.
This isn’t about ticking boxes or sticking to scripts. It’s about showing up, staying calm when things get tricky, and offering consistent support that builds trust over time.
What you’ll be doing

Supporting children and young people with SEMH and behavioural needs

Building strong, supportive relationships to help pupils feel safe and regulated

Delivering wellbeing interventions tailored to individual needs

Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and therapists to take a joined-up, trauma-informed approach

Encouraging positive behaviour and celebrating progress in all its forms
What we’re looking for

Experience supporting young people with SEMH, trauma, or emotional needs

Confident using de-escalation strategies and a calm, consistent tone

A patient, empathetic presence who can build trust over time

Background in education, youth work, psychology, care or mental health support

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
