Mental Health Support Worker – Sunderland

Do you want to support the mental health and emotional wellbeing of young people? Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of students who are struggling with anxiety, trauma, or social and emotional needs?
Protocol Education is working in partnership with a specialist school in Sunderland that supports children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. We are looking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Support Worker to join their team and play a key role in promoting wellbeing and resilience.
Your Responsibilities:

Work with pupils on a one-to-one or small group basis to provide emotional and mental health support

Help students to develop strategies for managing anxiety, low mood, anger, and emotional regulation

Support with the implementation of behaviour and wellbeing plans

Collaborate with teachers, SEN staff, and external agencies to create a consistent support network

Promote a calm, safe, and nurturing environment for students to thrive
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
-
Experience supporting children or young people with mental health or emotional needs (education, youth work, residential care, or counselling backgrounds are all relevant)

A trauma-informed and person-centred approach
-
Strong communication and active listening skills
-
Confidence in handling challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner

Knowledge of safeguarding and mental health frameworks in education

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
