Mental health & SEN Support worker

Newcastle and north Tyneside

Primary/ Secondary school role

£77-80 per day - fulle time 

 

Protocol Education are recruiting individuals who are positive advocators for mental health to be based within schools across Newcastle and north Tyneside. We work with both Priamry and Secondary schools across Newcastle and North Tyneside. 

These role begin on a temporary bases, however due to the students requiring consistency the roles are long term. Inially schools may trial educators for a week, giving you the opportunity to get a feel for the role, after this weeks trial schools typically secure educators a term at a time resulting in most educators remaining within the same role for the whole academic year. 

Student's within mainstream schools require both personal and educational support in order to make the necessary progress. This role will encompass supporting those students during their time in school. 

The ideal candidate for this role will be commited and compassionate. They will be dedicated to a career in education and work well one-to-one. 

Candidates should be patient, friendly and approachable individuals with a passionate for helping people with social emotional mental health needs and special education need and disabilities. These role will begin as short term but due to the high demand for learning support in schools and the importance of consistency for SEND and SEMH children, they have the potential to become a long-term position. 

It is desirable that canddiates have personal or professional expereince interacting with social emotional meantl health or special educational needs individuals. It is also desirable that candidates have studied a degree which covered modules surrounding mental health and special educational needs e.g. psychology, counciling, clinical background, health and social care. 

Responsibilities:

  • Support SEND and SEMH students.
  • Interact with students, teachers and parents.
  • Manage behaviour and be a positive role model for students.
  • Aid personal and educational student development.

Suitable candidates will:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have or would be willing to obtain an enhanced DBS.
  • Have good verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Be passionate advocators for mental health.
  • have a good understanding of SEND and SEMH.
  • be willing to travel up to an hour for the perfect role. 
  • Be committed to the development of the children they are assigned to.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
