We’re supporting a specialist provision in Sunderland that works with autistic learners and pupils with complex needs. Their approach centres on structure, understanding, and high-quality, individualised support that helps every child succeed.

They’re looking for a skilled Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) who can bring expertise, initiative, and a nurturing presence to the classroom someone who’s confident leading groups, supporting learning plans, and working collaboratively with teachers and therapists.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Lead small group sessions and targeted interventions

  • Provide 1:1 support for pupils with autism and complex learning needs

  • Support teachers with planning, delivery, and assessment

  • Help to implement structured routines and positive behaviour strategies

  • Model best practice for other support staff

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • HLTA qualification or equivalent experience leading learning activities

  • Proven experience working with pupils with SEND, particularly autism and complex needs

  • Confidence in behaviour support and communication strategies (PECS, Makaton, or similar)

  • A positive, flexible attitude and a genuine passion for making a difference
