We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Religious Education to lead a well-established RE department at a high-achieving secondary school in Richmond. This full-time role is available from September 2025 on a temporary to permanent basis and presents an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator to shape the strategic direction of the RE curriculum.

About the Role

As Head of RE, you will be responsible for driving excellence in the planning and delivery of Religious Education across KS3 to KS5. You will lead a team of committed professionals and play a key role in supporting whole-school priorities around spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Religious Education department

  • Oversee curriculum planning, assessment, and quality assurance from KS3 to KS5

  • Deliver inspiring RE lessons and support student academic progress

  • Promote inclusive values and engage students in discussions about religion, ethics, and philosophy

  • Line-manage staff and contribute to staff development within the department

  • Collaborate with SLT on whole-school initiatives and RE’s role in SMSC and PSHE

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and significant experience teaching RE

  • Proven experience in a leadership role or ready to take the next step

  • Strong subject knowledge and understanding of RE curriculum frameworks

  • A track record of raising standards and delivering high-quality outcomes

  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Passion for developing students’ critical thinking, empathy, and global awareness
