Job Title: English Teacher – SEMH School

Salary: £150 - £190 per day (depending on experience and pay scale - negotiable)

Protocol Education is proud to be working with specialist SEMH schools across Gateshead and neighbouring areas, who are looking to appoint a committed and resilient English Teacher. This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who can deliver engaging, creative and inclusive lessons to students who may have experienced barriers to learning in mainstream settings.
The Role:

Deliver the English curriculum to KS3 and KS4 pupils, often working with small groups or on a 1:1 basis.

Create a safe, supportive, and structured classroom environment.

Differentiate lessons to meet a wide range of emotional and academic needs.

Build trusting relationships with students, many of whom may display challenging behaviour linked to trauma or unmet needs.

Work closely with support staff, pastoral teams and external agencies to support student progress and wellbeing.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS) – essential

Experience teaching English at secondary level

Previous experience working in an SEMH or alternative provision setting is highly desirable

Strong behaviour management skills and a trauma-informed approach

Empathy, resilience, and a genuine desire to help young people succeed
