Early Years SEND Support Assistant – North Shields Area
Protocol Education are working in partnership with a warm and inclusive primary school located within the North Shields catchment area, serving a diverse community with a high proportion of pupils requiring additional support. They are seeking an experienced and nurturing Early Years SEND Support Assistant to join their team as soon as possible.
About the role:

Full-time, Monday to Friday

Working within Early Years to support children with a range of SEND, with a particular focus on social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH)

Providing 1:1 and small group support to help children settle into routines, engage with learning, and develop their social and communication skills

Many children have experienced significant trauma and a high number of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs); the role requires a trauma-informed and empathetic approach

Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to implement EHCP targets and personalised strategies
About you:

Previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly SEMH, within Early Years or primary settings

Confident in using nurturing, trauma-informed approaches to build trusting relationships
-
Calm, patient, and consistent in managing behaviour and emotional regulation needs

Knowledge of strategies to support children affected by trauma and ACEs
-
Hold or be willing to obtain a valid DBS on the Update Service

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
