Location: Sunderland
Salary: £89–£108 per day
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term
Start Date: Immediate

Fluent in British Sign Language? This role speaks your language.
We’re working with a warm, inclusive school in Sunderland that supports pupils with hearing impairments. They’re looking for a confident BSL communicator who can help students feel seen, understood, and supported every step of the way.

You don’t need to be a qualified teacher. You don’t even need a TA qualification (though it’s a bonus). What matters is your ability to connect and your experience using BSL to support communication and learning.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group BSL support in class

  • Helping pupils access learning and build confidence

  • Working closely with teachers and the SENCO

  • Supporting social interaction and emotional wellbeing

Who we’re looking for:

  • Someone with BSL Level 2 or higher

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people (formal or informal)

  • Calm, friendly, and great at building trust

  • A real team player who wants to make a difference

What you’ll get from Protocol Education:

  • Weekly PAYE pay – transparent and hassle-free

  • Access to our CPD Academy, including SEND training

  • Personal support from your local consultant

  • A streamlined registration process

  • Roles that match your strengths, not just your CV

If you're ready to use your signing skills to help young people thrive, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today or drop us a line to learn more.
