Job Title: Trainee SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Newcastle (near city centre)
Salary: £83-95 per day
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term

Make a difference in your local community—start your career helping young people in Newcastle.

We’re looking for a Trainee SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school near Newcastle city centre, supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a brilliant opportunity to build your skills, give back to the community around you, and help young people in the local area get the support they deserve.

Many of the children we work with live in the surrounding areas of the city and have faced challenges that go beyond the classroom. What they need is someone who shows up with kindness, patience, and a steady hand—someone who helps them see that school can be a place where they feel safe and supported.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs

  • Helping children build emotional resilience and develop positive routines

  • Supporting learning inside and outside the classroom, with a focus on wellbeing and confidence

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and families to deliver tailored support

  • Making a direct impact in the local community by supporting children’s progress and development

Why start your journey with Protocol Education?

  • Weekly pay through PAYE—transparent, reliable, and fair

  • FREE training including Thrive and behaviour management

  • Personalised support from a dedicated consultant who knows the schools in this area

  • Opportunities to grow your skills and develop into long-term roles

  • £50 referral reward if you introduce someone we place

Who we’re looking for:
We want someone who’s ready to start their career with purpose. You don’t need qualifications or formal experience—just a willingness to learn, a calm, positive approach, and a genuine commitment to helping children thrive. If you’ve got experience working with children or young people in any setting, great—but if this is your first step, we’ll support you all the way.

If you’re ready to make a real difference to young people’s lives in your local community, we’d love to hear from you.
