SEMH Support Worker (Ideal for Ex-Military/Police Personnel)
Location: West Yorkshire
Salary: 83.85 – 105 Daily
Contract: Full-time

Are you a former member of the Armed Forces or Police Force looking to make a real difference in young lives?
Do you have a passion for helping children overcome challenges and develop into their best selves? We are seeking resilient, compassionate, and dedicated individuals to join our SEMH school team as support workers, helping students with social, emotional, and mental health needs thrive in a learning environment.

About Us:
Our school is a specialist educational provision that supports children and young people who experience significant barriers to learning due to their social, emotional, or mental health needs. We believe in creating a supportive, structured, and nurturing environment where each student is given the opportunity to succeed academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies, drawing on your experience in high-pressure environments.
  • Act as a positive role model, promoting self-discipline and resilience.
  • Assist in creating a safe, structured environment for students to learn and grow.
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure that each child receives the best possible support.
  • Help with safeguarding, ensuring students’ physical and emotional well-being is prioritized.

Why Your Background is Ideal:
Ex-military and police personnel often excel in roles within SEMH settings due to their strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Your experience handling challenging situations, managing conflict, and fostering teamwork can translate perfectly into helping students who may struggle with authority, routine, or emotional regulation.

What We're Looking For:

  • A passion for working with young people and making a positive impact on their lives.
  • A background in the Armed Forces, Police, or a similar structured, discipline-based environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A willingness to learn about and engage with SEMH-specific approaches and strategies.
  • Experience working with vulnerable individuals (desirable, but not essential).
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work, with a strong sense of responsibility.

Benefits:

  • A rewarding career helping students achieve their potential.
  • Comprehensive training in SEMH and education support.
  • A supportive team environment with opportunities for growth and professional development.
  • The chance to use your unique skill set to make a lasting impact.

Highlights of becoming a Protocol Education Behaviour Support:

  • Full-time and part-time positions available.
  • Develop your knowledge of the national curriculum.
  • Ideal post for graduates looking to move into a career in teaching.
