ASC Teaching Assistant
Location: Sunderland

We are seeking a caring and resilient ASC Teaching Assistant to support children and young people with Autism Spectrum Conditions in a specialist setting in Sunderland. The school provides personalised learning pathways designed to help pupils build confidence, independence, and the skills they need for adulthood.
The Role
As an ASC Teaching Assistant, you will:

Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to pupils with autism and associated learning needs

Assist pupils with communication, sensory regulation, and emotional wellbeing

Support teachers in delivering engaging lessons that promote both academic progress and life skills

Encourage independence through structured routines, community-based learning, and daily living skills

Work closely with therapists, SENCOs, and other professionals to deliver holistic support
About You

Experience working with children or young people with autism (school or community setting)

Patient, adaptable, and consistent in your approach

Knowledge of visual supports, PECS, Makaton, or other communication tools is highly desirable

Understanding of sensory needs and regulation strategies
-
Willingness to undertake ASC/Thrive or other specialist training
