Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision
Location: Newcastle area
Salary: £89–£103 per day (PAYE)
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term
Start Date: September 2025
A role that’s all about calm, connection, and confidence.
We’re looking for a compassionate and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a specialist alternative provision supporting secondary-aged pupils who can’t currently attend mainstream school—often due to mental health challenges, anxiety, or medical needs.
This isn’t your typical classroom. With small group sizes (around 8 pupils) and a high adult-to-staff ratio, you’ll play a vital role in helping young people feel safe, seen, and supported—whether that’s through structured learning, quiet encouragement, or just being a steady presence in their day.
What you’ll be doing:
-
Supporting pupils aged 11–16 with SEMH or medical-related needs
-
Building positive, trusting relationships with students and staff
-
Assisting with personalised learning—academic and emotional
-
Helping pupils re-engage with education at their own pace
-
Working closely with specialist teams and multi-agency support
What we’re looking for:
-
Experience in SEMH, youth work, or therapeutic education settings
-
A calm, adaptable approach—especially in emotionally charged moments
-
Excellent communication and teamworking skills
-
The ability to build rapport and model emotional regulation
What you get with Protocol Education:
-
Weekly PAYE pay—£89 to £103 per day
-
FREE access to our CPD Academy, including SEMH and trauma training
-
A friendly, local consultant who’s got your back
-
Referral rewards for bringing along brilliant colleagues
